A Direct Attach Copper cable or a DAC cable is a shielded Twinax copper coaxial cable with a fixed pluggable transceiver at each end with a gauge scope generally from 24 to 30AWG. It links directly to the ports of active equipment, such as switches, routers, servers, or data storage devices.
DAC cables are becoming more and more popular, not just in the data centers but also in other areas of the industry, because they are cost-effective, efficient, and offer an easy solution for making those connections.
The 10G DAC high-speed cable is composed of a copper cable and two SFP+ connectors. Unlike the SFP+ optical module+optical cables, it does not have optical lasers and electronic components, and transmits electrical signals through copper cables, without the process of photoelectric conversion. Thus the cost of the product has greatly dropped. It also reduces the labor and time for matching and connection.
10G Direct Attach Copper Twinax Cable are ideal I/O solutions for 10G Ethernet and 10G Fiber Channel applications, allowing hardware manufacturers to achieve high port density, configurability, and utilization at a very low cost and reduced power budget. It conforms to the SFF-8431, SFF-8432, and SFF-8472 specifications. Various choices of wire gauge are available from 30 to 24 AWG with different cable lengths optional (up to 7m).
